Materials & Applications

Privacies Infrastructure is a new public program by Materials & Applications that explores the notions of privacy and privatization in the residential landscape of Echo Park. Along with her collaborator, Sarah Lewis-Cappellari, Shanks was invited to create a new commission for the project. Their site-specific performance opens on September 29, 2018 in Los Angeles, and includes the premiere of Shanks’s new dance film, passing through the bars and over (cinematography by Mobolaji Olaoniye).

Macalester College

Shanks recently choreographed a production of The Cherry Orchard, presented by the Theater and Dance Department at Macalester College. The production, directed by professor Beth Clearly, was the last theater piece performed in the college’s Janet Wallace Theater. At the end of November the theater, built in the 1960s, will be razed to make room for a new theater and dance complex.
